Crypsis is used by many different animals to blend in with their environment to avoid predation or to ambus prey. Many of these animals, such as octopuses and chameleons, use chromoatophores to alter their color. Feeding strategies vary greatly among animal species include different forms predation and herbivory, but also stranger methods such as filter feeding (sponges, some fish, tunictes, etc) and deposit feeding (some clams, worms). Other animals are scavengers that eat dead things. While the specific structures they use may vary, all animals are heterotrophs, and must consume other life to gain energy.
